Re: Zero – Starting Life in Another World (Japanese: Re:ゼロから始める異世界生活, Hepburn: Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu, also known as Re: Life in Another World) is a Japanese light novels series written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shin’ichirō Ōtsuka. The story centers on Subaru Natsuki, a hikikomori who suddenly finds himself transported to another world on his way home from the convenience store. The series was initially serialized on the website Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2012. Twenty-seven light novels, five volumes of side stories, and six collections of short stories have been published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J imprint.Subaru Natsuki is a NEET who is suddenly summoned to a fantasy world. Just after his arrival, he is killed while trying to help a young half-elf he has befriended, Emilia. She is a candidate to become the next ruler of the kingdom of Lugunica, only to be resurrected hours later. After dying several times, Subaru realizes he has the power to go back in time after his death. After successfully helping Emilia, Subaru begins living in one of the Mathers’ mansions in Roswaal as a butler. Out of gratitude and affection for Emilia, Subaru uses his new power to protect her and help her in her ambition to be named queen while helping other friends he had made along the way while suffering the pain that is inflicted on him every time he dies, and taking with him the memories of everything that happened before his power was activated, which is forgotten by everyone but him.
